About the Artist
Prisilla is an artist that creates with purpose and meaning. Her work reflects transformative themes based on energy, resilience, metamorphosis, the power of positive thinking, and growth and development. She established herself in the fine arts world working with traditional mediums like acrylic paint, pen and ink, charcoal, pastels, graduating to murals, mixed media, and currently a greater interest in graphic design. Botanical inspiration shown in her latest work represents playful experimentation of color, unity, and balance along with freedom to explore what speaks to her. Prisilla considers herself a versatile artist who enjoys learning new techniques, art forms and finding opportunities to express herself.
Beneath the Surface
While pregnant, Prisilla found out that her baby girl was diagnosed with gastroschisis - a severe congenital disorder requiring immediate surgery followed by weeks in the NICU.
Although her sweet girl made a phenomenal recovery, Prisilla’s faith was tested by the stressful beginning of motherhood and the early years of being a young mom. Through those seasons of life, she dug deep and learned to hold strong to HOPE. This experience, along with many other personal and relational challenges, taught her one very important lesson: Your mental health matters!
Prisilla was born in Rio Grande, Texas and moved to Houston, Texas with her family at a young age. The city’s diversity served as a playground of ideas that fueled her creativity throughout her childhood and youth. There was no doubt she was meant to be an artist. In her early twenties as a young woman fresh in the art scene, her life took an unexpected turn that would ultimately be her greatest inspiration.
Through a new-found faith and a relentless hunger to revitalize her life and harness her potential, Prisilla worked to change her life. She dove deep in learning about the power of the mind, neuroplasticity - our brain’s ability to change through growth and reorganization, and how one’s thoughts do have the power to create their reality. She discovered that the physical world can only change after the change happens within. The new discovery of how this simple truth had the potential to transform her life ignited her interest in the study of the botanical world; flora motifs centered around blooming and becoming, rebirth after darkness, and resilience from pushing past environmental obstacles.
Today, Prisilla is flourishing and reminded of the importance of play. She is learning to enjoy the process of life, allowing it to unfold naturally. Life has no guarantees, but good things can still bloom from dark moments in our lives and new beginnings are just around the horizon.
“Choose love and choose to believe in yourself. May you find encouragement in knowing that you are amazing! Keep going and keep thriving!”
